Online Modules

Bring Back the Brookies online educational program was created by the Niagara Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada to connect Niagara students to their natural surroundings. Through a series of short videos and suggested outdoor activities, grade 7, 8 and 9 students are invited to discover Twelve Mile Creek, Niagara’s most significant watershed, home to the only local population of native Brook Trout. They will learn about the lifecycle of Brook Trout, an indicator of a clean and healthy watershed. They will find out that Brook Trout populations are declining because of human impacts aggravated by climate change. And they will learn how we can restore Brook Trout numbers and what they can do to help.

The 5 modules of this course can be offered as self paced individual study, or the modules may be used selectively to support curriculum objectives. A menu of outdoor activity options supports learners to get out to explore and observe creek dynamics and diversity in the surrounding ecosystem. Experiencing Twelve Mile Creek in all seasons can be the greatest source of inspiration.
